UFC 99 Franklin vs Silva

This fight event billed as “THE COMEBACK” is scheduled on June 13, 2009 Saturday 3:00 PM ET live on Pay-Per-View (PPV) from the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany. This will be the first UFC event to be held in Germany, as well as the first in mainland Europe.

In the UFC 99 main event, two of the game’s most revered superstars will battle it out, former  UFC middleweight champion Rich ‘Ace’ Franklin will go head to head against former PRIDE® champion Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva in a true fight fan’s dream match.  Franklin is on his way up to light-heavyweight while Wanderlei is moving down to middleweight and both are meeting at a catchweight of 195 en route to their new division homes. This fight is critical for both, as they are looking to re-establish themselves as contenders to make a run at their respective division titles. Also featured in this event is Cheick Kongo, who replaces Heath Herring, to take on Cain Velasquez at the heavyweight division. Kongo has since won three straight against Dan Evensen, Mostpha Al-Turk and Antoni Hardonk — all by TKO.  So, see for yourself. This will be a great and exciting fight match to watch for.

Since 2006, Silva has been knocked out cold three times, including his 1st round KO loss at the hands of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in last December 2008 and he took a ton of punishment in a unanimous decision loss to Chuck Liddell as well. He’s got heart upon heart, I guess that’s why he’s making a comeback. Rich Franklin, on the other hand, is quite simply one of the best fighters in the world. Rich has been successful in a seemingly quiet fashion throughout his career, with his only losses coming to current Champions Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida as well as his most recent split decision loss to Dan Henderson last January 2008. The loss to Henderson was a very close fight and by no means proved that Henderson was the better fighter, just that he was better that night.
